We are heading out from Austin to Tampa today after work. Hopefully it will be an uneventful trip. I think it is predicted to rain pretty much the whole way there. You can follow our progress here.

Well, this aint Lake Travis

This is a really odd lake. You really can't count on the shifts. We had two good races and one bad starte with a great recovery.

Oh yeah I may have broken my toe

Don't worry mom I had an ER doctor check it out. I am okay.

We are only 2 points out of 3rd, and on bad race for the rest of them (which is lekely and we are right back in the hunt).

Wish us luck in the morning.....because we willl need it!!!!!b

Let the games begin!!!

I'm getting ready for our first day of sailing. Yesterday was the practice race and the opening ceremonies. This lake is going to be shiftier than we thought, but we'll deal with it. The opening ceremonies was pretty neat. Jeff Jonstone (son of the J24 inventor) spoke briefly, and then the owners of the 2nd J24 to ever come of the assembly line spoke for a while. They bought and still own hull #6. I never realized how much J24 history is in this area of the country, but I guess with this being fleet #1 and the fact that they bought 6 of the first 25 J24s, that does stand to reason. Racing starts today. Results can be found at http://www.j24northamericans.com/.

We are here

We actually made it here around 10:30 AM this morning. The drive last night was fine. We hit some really hit fog in Missouri and Iowa, but other than that we were fine. We've explored the city a little. I'll post a complete update tomorrow, but for now, I really haven't gotten more than 6 hours of quality sleep in the past 48 hours.

3:30 Schoepf's Old Time Pit Bar-B-Que

We'll we want to make good time, but we needed to get some food, so at Robbie's suggestion, we stopped at Schoepf's Old Time Pit Bar-B-Que. Schoepf's was ranked in the top 50 BBQ places in Texas by Texas Monthly. I must say, if you are passing through Belton, it is well worth the stop. The sausage is spectacular and has just the right amount of moisture. The brisket is different than what I am used to, as it is a little drier and cut in about 1/3 inch strips, but it just falls apart in to nice little shreds of beef.

The next stop will likely be some where just north of Fort Worth.

J24 North American's - And we're off

Well, it is 2:20 in the afternoon, and we are between Georgetown and Belton. We got on the road at 1:40 in the afternoon, after having to go back to the club when I realized I had left my cell phone in the car (thank god Eric and Robbie are such understanding people). Eric, Robbie, and I are all really excited about the drive and the trip. We are hoping to get to Lake Minnetonka by mid-morning tomorrow. Hopefully we'll have a fun and safe trip.

I'll be trying to update this on our drive up so you all can feel like you are here with us.

Here we are leaving the club:

6:15 Fort Worth/Texas Motor Speedway

Well, we have made it past Fort Worth

Downtown Fort Worth:

The air control tower north of Fort Worth that I always think looks like an ice cream cone:

We had to stop for gas, whcih brings a new segement of this blog. Rate that bathroom. This one wasn't too bad, minus some minor graffiti:

Getting pictures of the Texas Motor Speedway was hard, as we were on the access road across the highway from it, but here you go:
